Phillies right fielder Domonic Brown has a first-degree UCL sprain in his right thumb and will be out around 5-7 days, according to beat writer Matt Gelb’s Twitter. Good news — Scott Hartnell and Jeff Carter will not need surgery for their lingering hip issues.  “Both were checked for hip issues and neither will require anything done surgically,” said Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren, per csnphilly.com.  Also, Carter won’t need surgery on the knee that had him miss multiple playoff games.
