“Every week until the start of training camp, a different position on the Eagles will be analyzed. Today, it’s the defensive line.
If the Eagles have anything on their defensive line, it’s depth.
During the offseason, the team traded for two defensive linemen, then drafted three more, and just for good measure signed two more undrafted rookies.
Add that to the seven returning players on the line and there should be some interesting battles up front when the team opens its training camp at Lehigh University later this month.
Let’s take a look at what might transpire.
Outside at end, Pro Bowl player Trent Cole, who led the team in sacks last year with 121/2 and has 34 over the past three seasons, is a fixture at right defensive end.
Cole, one of the best draft picks in the Andy Reid Era, has become more than just a pass rusher. He’s honed his skills to become a very good three-down player.
“I love the guy, love the way he works,” one NFC scout said. “He used to be undersized and would wear down, both in games and over the course of the season. You don’t see that anymore.””
