NBC apologizes to Reid for replay absence

September 20 CSN Philly

The replay clearly shows the ball hitting the ground. Only problem is that neither Andy Reid nor his staff ever saw the replay. “There was no replay for us to look at,” Reid said Monday, a day after the absence of an appropriate TV replay may have been a significant factor in the Eagles’ first loss of the year. Reid said he received an e-mail apology from a representative of NBC’s broadcast crew Monday morning

Red-zone scoring burns Eagles’ ‘D’

September 20 Courier-Post

When the Eagles made their big free-agent signings on defense over the summer, they were designed to stop teams from scoring in the red zone. Yet the Atlanta Falcons drove five times inside the Eagles’ 20-yard line Sunday night. Each time, they came away with a touchdown, and four of the five came on passes. Last season, the Eagles allowed a franchise-record 31 passing touchdowns and allowed touchdowns on 76.7 percent of opponents’ trips in the red zone, the worst percentage in the NFL.

Allen making his way back

September 20 CSN Philly

Little by little, Nate Allen is making his way back. Allen, who enjoyed such a promising rookie season last year, has been relegated to second-string duty these days. Allen began the preseason as a starter, but it turned out that his recovery from December surgery to repair his ruptured left Achilles tendon hadn’t gone quite as quickly as he thought it had. So Allen was benched at strong safety in favor of Jarrad Page after the Pittsburgh preseason game, and Page has been the starter since.

Robinson fined $40K for hit on Maclin

September 20 CSN Philly

For the second straight year, Dunta Robinson has been fined for a vicious shot at an Eagles receiver. Robinson on Monday was fined $40,000 — the minimum amount for a second-time offender — for his hit Sunday night (video) on Jeremy Maclin. According to a release by the league, the Falcons’ cornerback violated the rule designed to protect a defenseless receiver. After the game Robinson, who was penalized for the hit, didn’t expect to be disciplined.

Eagles season promises to be wild ride

September 20 CSN Philly columnist Ray Didinger

Welcome to the Season of Living Dangerously.  That’s what this NFL season will be in Philadelphia. It will be 16 weeks of swinging-on-the-trapeze, walking-on-a-tightrope, holding-your-breath and closing-your-eyes football –because that’s how this Eagles team is built.  It will be exciting, it will be suspenseful, it will make a heck of a highlight film when it’s all over, but where will it lead? Will it end with the Eagles in the Super Bowl as so many have predicted, or will it end with them spinning into the postseason wall yet again?

Vick not ruled out for Sunday vs. Giants

September 20 CSN Philly

The Eagles haven’t ruled out Michael Vick for their home opener against the Giants Sunday, despite a mild concussion he suffered in the third quarter of their loss to the Falcons in Atlanta.  A team official said the Eagles believe Vick actually has a good chance of being cleared in time for the Eagles’ home opener against the Giants Sunday afternoon.
