“I’m all right,” said the defensive end, who won’t play in Thursday’s preseason game vs. the New York Jets. He has about two weeks to get ready for the opener.
Cole didn’t practice Monday and will continue to rehabilitate the injury.
The two-time Pro Bowl player said his ankle “folded in” while he was trying to make a tackle, which left him in blinding pain. On the next snap, Cole said he could barely get crouched into the three-point stance.
“It hurt so bad, my whole body kind of went limp,” he added. “I was kind of out of it for a little bit. Going into the next play, I didn’t even get into a stance. I finally made it off the field after the play.”
Cole, who made the Pro Bowl last season after tying his career best with 12.5 sacks, said he was “worried and scared” during his trip for X-rays but “everything came out good, so I’m all right.”
Cole, who is entering his sixth season, has quietly had one of his best camps, according to Eagles defensive coordinator Sean McDermott.
“Phenomenal,” McDermott said of Cole’s summer. “I don’t know that Trent’s had a better preseason than he’s had this year. I think you guys saw the last two games — he really dominated when he was in. The last two games, he looks like he’s right on pace.”
The Eagles have swapped sixth-round draft picks with Arizona, sending running back Charles Scott to the Cardinals in exchange for cornerback Jorrick Calvin.
With so many corners on the roster, Calvin is a long shot to make the team, but General Manager Howie Roseman talked up Calvin’s return skills and said the team had shown interest in the former Troy standout before the draft.
Calvin was one of the college prospects the team brought into the Novacare Complex for interviews, which means he is likely headed to the practice squad.”
