And that’s not necessarily a good thing.
The latest Eagle to almost suffer an injury because of a hit from Sims, a linebacker, was tight end Brent Celek, who was leveled by Sims during a nontackling passing drill Monday morning.
The ball fell incomplete, and Celek was hunched over for a few minutes while trainer Rick Burkholder attended to him.
Celek was OK afterward, but Eagles coach Andy Reid wasn’t pleased as he talked to Sims while Celek was down. Neither was defensive coordinator Sean McDermott.
“We want to take care of our teammates, number one, and we have to keep that in mind,” McDermott said.
“Good teams know how to practice, and we obviously want to be a good team, so we have to know how to practice together and take care of each other.”
A Sims’ hit also led to a right quad contusion for running back LeSean McCoy. The second-year running back sat out practice Monday, but it doesn’t seem like the injury is serious.
McDermott said that he loves Sims’ aggressiveness. He just wants him to temper it so he doesn’t injure his teammates.
“I made a comment in the spring that there’s a shark in the water,” McDermott said about Sims. “He’s extremely fast, and he’s got one speed and one mind-set. I think he wakes up mad at his alarm clock. . . .He’s been a joy to have here and a joy to be around, and I love his attitude.”
Offensive lineman Todd Herremans went through practice Monday morning. He mostly sat out the live contact period, except for a couple of plays near the end.
He said his foot felt fine, and that he hopes to play in one of the games before the preseason ends, although he doesn’t think it will happen this Friday against the Cincinnati Bengals.
“My foot feels great,” Herremans said. “My whole body feels great. I would like to get some snaps in before the season starts.”
Eagles coach Andy Reid had said he wanted to go slow with Herremans, who suffered from the same foot problems through most of last season.”
