“The buzz around Lehigh is about replacing a legend.
But it’s not just the new starting quarterback in the spotlight.
Running back LeSean McCoy has been compared to Brian Westbrook since the day the Eagles drafted him in the second round last April.
The former Pittsburgh star admitted recently that he still studies tape of the All-Pro running back, searching for clues and trade secrets that can help him take the next step.
“Everything he’s done here, [with] me being the next back, why wouldn’t I want to watch him and learn?” McCoy said. “It’s just the nature of the beast.”
Last season, McCoy showed he could function within the framework of coach Andy Reid’s pass-heavy offense, a heavy load for the 21-year-old rookie who played two seasons at Pitt.
He started eight games last year in place of an injured Westbrook and set a rookie club record for rushing yards (637), to go with 945 all-purpose yards and four touchdowns.
One year later, McCoy envisions better numbers as the unquestioned No. 1 back, but he’s acutely aware that he and his predecessor aren’t carbon copies.”
