September 16 Philadelphia Daily News:
“DEFENSIVE LINEMAN Brandon Graham’s initiation to the NFL was purely physical.
Free safety Nate Allen’s was more a mental wake-up moment.
Graham, whom the Eagles took with their first pick in this year’s draft, got “ear-holed” by Packers right tackle Mark Tauscher. The shot was clean, part of an actual play during the Packers’ first touchdown drive in the third quarter . . . but also served to even the score between the pair, since Graham had clobbered Tauscher earlier in the game.
“We ran a stunt and he came down hard on me,” said Graham, who is more than 50 pounds lighter than Tauscher. “I was like, ‘Uh-oh.’ Let me stay low; I can’t be playing high with these guys. You’ve really got to use your technique on these guys.”
Especially when you’re more than 50 pounds lighter than those guys.
Graham smiled as he said, “It looked like I was about to make the play, and he came out of nowhere and, just, boom. And I just went down.”
Allen’s incident was less jarring, if more consequential. Early in the game, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers teased Allen.
“He walked by me and said, ‘Hey, watch out with those hand signals,’ “ Allen said. “I was, like, ‘Dang.’ I mean, if he can sit there and pick up hand signals while he’s under center – that’s pretty impressive.
“I was, like, ‘Hey, these quarterbacks are smart.’ ”
Rodgers later hit Greg Jennings for the decisive 32-yard touchdown near the end of the third quarter.
Allen was supposed to help in the coverage.
Graham said he played about half of his 52 plays at tackle, much more than he expected. He also said that, this week, he will study the tendencies of the Lions’ guards; he only studied the Packers’ tackles.”
