Reports surfaced yesterday regarding Flyers forward Nik Zherdev and an alleged altercation he had with his wife. Now the Flyers have acknowledged they’re aware of the situation.
“We are aware of the reports but until we have spoken to Nikolay and have more information, we will not comment,” Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said in an e-mail, via csnphilly.com.
After the initial reports — which indicated that Zherdev got in an argument with his wife while at breakfast with friends, leading to a verbal altercation that included the beatdown by Zherdev of an apparently innocent Bentley and threats against his wife’s life — Dmitry Chesnokov of Puck Daddy reported via Twitter that the director of the restaurant where the alleged altercation occurred said the report is false. It’s likely we’ll never get the full story, especially if Zherdev’s wife doesn’t press charges.
And just think, if Zherdev exhibited the same intensity on the ice that he allegedly used on his Bentley, the talented Russian would probably be welcomed back with open arms by the Flyers and fans alike.
