The Flyers have announced that defenseman Jody Shelley will need surgery on a fractured orbital bone and will miss around four weeks.
Per csnphilly.com, yesterday in practice Shelley took a puck to the face after a shot deflected off Andreas Nodl’s stick.
“Jody Shelley will have surgery on Thursday, March 24 to repair a broken orbital bone on the left side of his face,” said Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren. “This injury occurred in practice on Monday. The surgery will be performed by Dr. Guy Lanzi. Jody will be able to return in four weeks”
Shelley has been a physical presence for the Flyers all season, though lately he’s appeared to be showing his age a bit. And with the playoffs less than a month away, with the 39 year-old tough guy likely seeing little ice time, it would appear Shelley’s season is pretty much over.
To fill Shelley’s place, the Flyers recalled defenseman Danny Syvret from the Phantoms.
