Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren has announced that James van Riemsdyk will be out indefinitely due to concussion issues.
“James was hit in the head in each of our last two games. He reported yesterday, not feeling like himself,” Holmgren said. “He will be out indefinitely with a concussion.”
Those two games were victories over the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday and the New York Islanders on Thursday. It’s not clear which hits did the most damage, and it’s the game before those two, an overtime loss to the Senators, that may have been the true origin. Here’s a clip showing JVR taking a shoulder from Bobby Butler that obviously got the bell ringing:
h/t to our friends at Crossing Broad.
While he’s out, the Flyers will need their other forwards to step up. JVR is second on the team in shots on goal, with 11 goals and 22 points tallied in 37 games. Claude Giroux may be an All-Star but he can’t do it all.
