Jagr: Signing with Flyers wasn’t about the money

July 3 CSN Philly:

Before he even takes the ice at the Wells Fargo Center, Jaromir Jagr would like you to get one thing straight: It wasn’t about the money.  After all, the Flyers’ new right winger said, he could have stayed in Russia and continued to play in the KHL, skating in just 60 games a year – and making more money than the $3.3 million the Flyers will pay him for next season’s work.  And as if that weren’t enough to prove his point, there were also the other NHL teams’ offers.

After Jagr and Talbot, what’s next for the Flyers?

July 3 CSN Philly:

Early last week, general manager Paul Holmgren sat on a podium before a packed press conference to present the three newest Flyers, all acquired as part of the deals that sent Jeff Carter and Mike Richards to the Western Conference.  Wayne Simmonds, 22, a right wing who came to Philadelphia from the L.A. Kings, sat right in the middle of his two new teammates. When Holmgren introduced Simmonds to the crowd, he used language that tends to be frequently employed when describing the prototypical Philadelphia Flyer.

Kings, winger Simon Gagne agree to two-year, $7-million deal

July 3 Los Angeles Times:

Shut out in the Brad Richards sweepstakes, the Kings on Saturday agreed to terms with free-agent left wing Simon Gagne on a two-year, $7-million deal.  He will earn $4.5 million the first year and $2.5 million the second, following the pattern of front-loading free agents’ contracts in case of a lockout after the 2011-12 season.
