June 13 CSN Philly:
Sometime either before or during the first day of the NHL Draft on June 24, the Flyers figure to be making some roster moves to secure the salary cap space needed to sign goalie Ilya Bryzgalov. There’s been speculation everywhere, most notably in the Columbus Dispatch, and locally, among some blogs, about the Flyers dealing Jeff Carter for the Blue Jackets’ eighth overall pick in the first round and enigmatic forward Jakub Voracek.
June 13 Pro Hockey Talk:
It’s more or less human nature to want to fit in and “keep up with the Joneses.” There are at least two fundamental problems with that mindset, though: 1) it is expensive to stay on top of trends and buy the latest gadgets and 2) you might lose your own identity in the process. The Philadelphia Flyers seem primed to finally kowtow to conventional wisdom by locking up Ilya Bryzgalov to a hefty, possibly long-term deal.
June 12 Camden Courier-Post:
Paul Holmgren spent the better part of this weekend getting the parameters of what it will take to make Ilya Bryzgalov the Flyers’ goaltender for the next five or six (maybe seven or eight) years. Bryzgalov’s agent, Ritch Winter, likely began those negotiations by rattling off impressive statistics from last year, when his 30-year-old client finished third in the NHL in wins (42), second in shutouts (8), sixth in goals-against average (2.29) and ninth in save percentage (.920).
