July 6 Camden Courier-Post:
Quite frankly, Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren is tired of hearing about his team’s renewed efforts to make a deal for Tampa Bay Lightning star center Steven Stamkos. “I have no idea where that’s coming from — none,” Holmgren told the Courier-Post on Tuesday amid reports that the Flyers have prepared a trade package for Stamkos, who is still without a contract. “He belongs to the Tampa Bay Lightning and I can’t imagine any way he won’t continue to belong to them. There is nothing to that.”
Don’t get excited about Stamkos
July 6 CSN Philly:
Late last week, rumors about whether the Flyers would submit an offer sheet to Tampa Bay sniper Steven Stamkos reached fever pitch. Even after general manager Paul Holmgren issued a statement asserting the Flyers wouldn’t go after the 21-year-old center, the rumors continued. And now, a full four days after the start of free agency, there appears to be no end in sight to the question in the back of every Flyers fan’s mind: When the 2011-12 season opens this fall, could Stamkos be dressed in orange and black?
July 6 CSN Philly:
Just three weeks ago, Flyers fans thought little of the team’s upcoming prospect camp. Like last year, as of the close of the 2010-11 season, there wasn’t much hype surrounding any of the young skaters expected to get invites from the team. But that was then – and in today’s Philadelphia hockey climate, three weeks might as well be an eternity. Now, instead of a group made up of Phantoms, college kids and a player or two capable of, perhaps, not much more than a short stint at the NHL level this year, there are a few prospects worth keeping an eye on. That group is highlighted by Brayden Schenn and Sean Couturier.
