General manager Paul Holmgren has announced the Flyers have signed winger Jason Akeson and center Tyler Brown from the Ontario Hockey League. Both are being given entry-level contracts that take effect at the start of the 2011-2012 NHL season.
The 20 year-old Akeson currently leads the OHL in scoring with 24 goals and 79 assists for 103 total points to go along with a plus/minus rating of +26 in 59 games played. In 65 games played last season Akeson tallied 24 goals and 56 assists for 80 total points. In his four years with the OHL’s Kitchener Rangers Akeson has scored 68 goals with 181 assists for 249 total points.
Brown, 21, has played the past four seasons with the OHL’s Plymouth Whalers, putting up 120 points (47G, 73A) over 212 games. This season, he’s scored 24 goals and 30 assists (54 points) to go with a plus/minus rating of +7.
