Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren announced today that the team signed Finnish goaltender Niko Hovinen to an entry-level contract.
This is likely not exactly the move the folks clamoring for improved goaltending had been hoping for.
The 23 year-old stands 6-7 (!) and has never played in North America. He was drafted in the fifth round (136 overall) by the Minnesota Wild in the 2006 NHL Draft but he never played for them. Hovinen played with Lahti of the Finnish Elite League this past season.
