In what will hopefully go better than the negotiations between the NFL and the locked out players, the Flyers are set to meet with goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov this week to talk contract, per csnphilly.com.
Bryzgalov will be meeting with Flyers general manager and other higher-ups starting Thursday, with Bryzgalov’s agent Ritch Winter talking business in an effort to secure for the Flyers the services of the 30 year-old Russian.
The Flyers will have until July 1 to negotiate with Bryzgalov. If no deal is reached by then he becomes an unrestricted free agent. The Flyers could still sign him but other teams could jump in and cost the team a chance to finally acquire a legitimate starting goaltender in his prime.
It’s expected that Bryzgalov will be seeking at least $6 million a year for at least five years. Even if he wants more, the Flyers need to make it happen, salary cap be damned.
