November 14 Camden Courier-Post:
“On a night Jeff Carter stole the headlines by signing an 11-year, $58 million contract, Flyers captain Mike Richards reminded everyone at the Wells Fargo Center why he set the standard for long-term contracts.
Facing the only team in the Eastern Conference he had never scored against, Richards netted a pair of goals and got a bird’s-eye view of another as the Flyers posted their second consecutive rout, this one a 5-2 dismantling of the visiting Florida Panthers.
“I see his confidence building,” Flyers coach Peter Laviolette said. “He was flying out there tonight. He was a noticeable player. There was a lot of attack to his game. I think Mike has gotten stronger as we’ve gone.”
Claude Giroux also netted a pair of goals, and Ville Leino and Kimmo Timonen each picked up two assists as the Flyers improved to 8-0-1 over their last nine games and remained atop the Atlantic Division with 24 points and a 11-4-2 mark.
The Flyers have also won six straight at the Wells Fargo Center and will go for seven in a row Monday night against the Ottawa Senators.
They may do so without left wing Andreas Nodl, who took a shot off his foot in the second period and did not return. After the game Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said X-rays were negative but that the team would know more today.
If Nodl is unable to play Monday, James van Riemsdyk may replace him in the lineup. Van Riemsdyk was a healthy scratch for the fourth straight game Saturday night.”
