December 18 Philadelphia Inquirer:
Nikolay Zherdev scored two goals and Andreas Nodl and Ville Leino each added a goal as the Flyers extended their winning streak to five games in a 4-1 win over the Rangers Saturday at the Wells Fargo Center.
The Flyers, who own the best record in the Eastern Conference, are 10-3-1 in their last 14 games.
It was the Flyers‘ first game since they lost star defenseman Chris Pronger with a broken right foot. Pronger, who had surgery Friday, is expected to miss 4-6 weeks.
Flyers goalie Brian Boucher and Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist were locked in a scoreless duel when Zherdev put the Flyers in front with his 12th goal of the season midway through the second period.
Zherdev had just emerged from the penalty box and gathered in a long diagonal pass from Mike Richards for a breakaway. Zherdev patiently skated toward Lundqvist before flipping a backhander high into the net.
