Starting tonight, fans at Citizens Bank Park will be able to wonder at a pretty amazing piece of 3-D artwork. And it’s not hanging on a wall – it’s a 10′ by 22′ image created directly on the pavement.
The piece was the creation of Joe Hill (no, not Stephen King’s kid), a street artist who works for Wasabi 3-D based in London. The spectacular visual was commissioned by the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation and the Phillies.
“This looks like the pavement has been ripped away and you are looking down into the Phillies stadium with the Phanatic balancing on top of a sign,” Hill said, per KYW’s John McDevitt. “And you can balance on top of the Phanatic. So you have this quite cool — I hope cool! — illusion.”
The eye-catching artwork will be on display for at least the rest of the regular season. And not only will you be able to gawk at it, you can get your picture taken by the always on hand professional photographer, with free access to the photos at facebook.com/visitphilly.
You have to assume that it’s waterproof, and after tonight that fact is definitely going to be tested.
