October 10 Wilmington News Journal:
The first obstacle in the Reds’ quixotic quest will be Cole Hamels, who takes the mound in Game 3 tonight in an unlikely role but a familiar situation.
For most of the past four years, Hamels has been the Phillies‘ ace. But with Roy Halladay and Roy Oswalt here in 2010, Hamels was pushed back to Game 3.
Turns out, it’s right where he belongs.
Hamels has been in a position to close out a series three other times in the past two years, and the Phillies have won all three games.
“I think I’ve been fortunate enough to be in those situations where it’s been a clinching game, and I’ve been able to do well,” Hamels said. “But at the same point, we have to score runs. We have to minimize the damage.”
Hamels has done a splendid job of minimizing damage during the past three months of the season. Since July 1, he’s been among the best pitchers in baseball, posting a 2.28 ERA in 18 starts, including three double-digit strikeout games.”
