August 8 Camden Courier-Post

“Jeff Francoeur sent a line drive over the right field wall — just an inch or two over Ben Francisco’s outstretched glove — to lead off the seventh. It was perhaps the one mistake Cole Hamels made all night — a 1-0 change-up that Francoeur was ready to hit.

Aside from that, Hamels was nearly flawless. He struck out 11 Mets batters — his second straight game with double-digit strikeouts. He walked none — and hasn’t in his last 15 innings of work. For seven strong innings, he matched Mets’ ace Johan Santana nearly pitch for pitch.

But against someone like Santana, one mistake is all takes to lose a game, and Santana was at his best Saturday.

The Mets left-hander had a no-hitter going until Placido Polanco cracked a grounder back up the middle with two outs in the bottom of the sixth, and he didn’t allow a base runner past second through his 7 1/3 innings of work. The Mets prevailed 1-0, snapping the Phillies’ 12-game winning streak at Citizens Bank Park.”
