As expected, Roy Oswalt has been activated from the disabled list. He is scheduled to start Tuesday night in St Louis. Oswalt has been out since April 26, and hopefully with his family troubles behind him he can also get past these lingering back issues.
Also as expected, Vance Worley is being sent back to the minors.
Worley pitched very well in his two starts filling in for Joe Blanton. After Blanton’s return, Worley went to the bullpen where he continued to do well. Even so, the Phillies would rather Worley get back to starting regularly at Lehigh rather than wasting away in the bullpen with Blanton and now Oswalt back.
And really, Oswalt and Blanton themselves are exactly why Worley needs to stay stretched out. If Blanton’s “cranky elbow” or Oswalt’s back again become issues, the Phillies would be much better served bringing Worley back to start than any other currently available option, such as Kyle Kendrick.
