Finally. With Shane Victorino officially being placed on the 15-day disabled list, the Phillies made the move to call up Domonic Brown to take Vic’s spot.
The move was pretty unexpected considering that yesterday Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said that Brown wasn’t ready as more at-bats were needed as Brown continued to recover from his broken hamate bone and recent thumb sprain.
Of course, the Phillies, or any sports team, not being forthcoming let alone truthful regarding their plans isn’t exactly a surprise.
Brown was doing well in his rehab stint — in 11 games he was hitting .341 with two homeruns and 10 RBIs for Triple-A Lehigh.
Victorino recently underwent an MRI that revealed a Grade 1/2 hamstring strain, which was a little more serious than was previously disclosed. Surprise. His assignment to the disabled list is retroactive to May 19.
In other moves, the Phillies optioned reliever Scott Mathieson back to the minors and recalled David Herndon. Luckily the Dom Brown excitement counteracts this bit of news.
