Phillies 2010 draft pick Jonathan Musser

“The Phillies were unable to come to terms with two of their 10 highest draft picks prior to last night’s deadline to sign them, but they did agree to a trio of deals with later-round picks who were considered tough signs because of college commitments.

The signings included a pair of righthanded pitchers whom the Phillies were determined to get into their system: 20th-rounder Kevin Walter, who played scholastically in Westminster, Col., and had switched college commitments from Boston College to Arizona State; and 21st-rounder Jonathan Musser, of West Des Moines, Iowa, who was weighing a scholarship from Nebraska but ultimately signed with the Phils.

Also signed was oufielder Brian Pointer, a 28th-round pick from Reno, Nev., who had committed to play at Oregon State.”
