Per a report on Fox Sports, The Phillies are interested in trading for Blue Jays’ left-hander Scott Downs. Downs has been a popular target of trade speculation this year, and that trend is continuing.
Downs, 34, is in the last year of his contract, so the Blue Jays have to decide if they want to keep him and hope to obtain draft picks if he signs elsewhere, or move him for prospects now. Downs is a premium option for GM’s looking for left-handed relief, so look for multiple teams to be mentioned in connection with him.
For the season, Downs is 3-5 with a .265 ERA in 37.1 innings, with no saves and a WHIP of 1.02.
There is no indication of what the Phillies would look to give up for him, though it would most likely be a mid-level prospect. Acquiring Downs would help lend stability to a troubled Phils bullpen.
