The Phillies announced today that portly reliever Mike Zagurski has been recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley, per philly.com. Zagurski will take the place of Vance Worley, who yesterday was sent down due to a need to further stretch out his arm and/or punish him for mouthing off about how he’s been handled by the organization. Probably both.
Zagurski, who has been terribly inconsistent as a big leaguer, alternating between bad and not that good, has actually been pitching well for the IronPigs. For the season, he is 1-0 with a 1.88 ERA with nine saves in 14.1 innings out of the bullpen.
Of course, Zagurski may not be around for long because someone will also need to go when Shane Victorino likely comes off the disabled list at the end of the week.
And really, they’d be better off with Valdez coming in anyway. Even throwing lefty.
