On the same day the Phillies officially clinched a 2011 playoff berth, fans can start looking forward to the possible road to a repeat. That’s because today Major League Baseball officially released the 2012 schedule.
Some highlights include:
— The Phillies will face the Pittsburgh Pirates in the annual “On Deck” series at Citizens Bank Park in the final preseason tuneup before the real games start.
— After hosting the Pirates as a warm up, they will then head to Pittsburgh for a three-game series to open the season. First game is scheduled for Thursday, April 5.
— The first home series is against the newly named Miami Marlins. The Phillies visit the Fish in their new stadium at the end of June.
— The Phillies will play 19 of their first 29 games on the road, including an early 10-game West Coast trip.
— For Interleague play, the Phillies will again host the Red Sox and their likely many of their annoying fans, from May 18-20. The following month the Phils will make their return to Baltimore (expect to almost as much red as orange in the crowd for that one) while also traveling to Minnesota’s new Target Field to face the Twins, finally heading up to Toronto to face the Blue Jays. That could make for a nice road trip, eh. The AL tour will run from June 8-17. Immediately after that the Phillies will return home to host the loser of the World Bleeping Championship in ’08 the Tampa Bay Rays.
— Finally, the Phils will end the season on the road, but that’s not too bad since it will be at Citizens Bank Park South, formerly known as Nationals Park.
— The Phillies Magic Number for 2012 is officially 163. Expect a new PSC countdown thread as soon as this season ends…
