September 9 Camden Courier-Post:
“It’s a scene the Phillies have watched unfold far too many times this season, and for Jimmy Rollins, it’s a scene in which he’s far too often been the star.
After scoring from second on a single by Carlos Ruiz in the third inning Wednesday, Rollins limped to the dugout, spent a moment talking with the Phillies‘ trainer, then headed for the locker room with tightness in his right hamstring.
Manager Charlie Manuel said the medical staff doesn’t think the injury is serious, but for Rollins, it’s yet another setback in a season that has been filled with them.
“He had some tightness, and he also was kind of sick a little bit (Wednesday). He was dehydrated,” Manuel said of Rollins’ condition. “He didn’t take BP. He didn’t feel good. Our trainer and the doctor felt like he was going to be OK. That’s the impression they gave me.”
Rollins has been on the disabled list twice this season with calf injuries and missed three games last month after fouling a ball off his foot.
For the Phillies, Rollins’ departure was yet another troubling sight in a year in which they’ve played 17 different players on the DL.
“It’s one of those things where it’s happened so much this year that it’s like, oh man, not again,” first baseman Ryan Howard said.
Manuel said Rollins will be evaluated again today, and if he’s expected to miss significant time, the team would likely need to add another infielder to the roster.
Roy Halladay will pitch Friday in New York. Roy Oswalt will pitch Sunday. As for Saturday’s starter, however, pitching coach Rich Dubee is telling both Vance Worley and Kyle Kendrick to be ready.
Kendrick was in the bullpen Wednesday, but didn’t see action, and he didn’t sound confident that would change by Saturday.
“I know today to be ready to pitch,” Kendrick said before Wednesday’s game. “I guess I’ll see where I am.”
Kendrick was clearly frustrated with his on-again, off-again place in the rotation. The 26-year-old righty has made 27 starts this season, but was temporarily banished the minors in July and has faced constant questions about his performance and his role on the team.”
