Phillies injuries may make some fear season instead of anticipate it

March 27 Philadelphia Inquirer columnist Phil Sheridan:

“Your breath isn’t quite as bated. Anticipation has yielded ground to trepidation. The week the Phillies are scheduled to come north, their fortunes seem to be headed due south. The summer of the aces has been preceded, maybe preempted, by the spring of the aches.

Phillies keeping relief options open

March 27 Philadelphia Inquirer:

“No matter who assumes the role of Phillies closer between Ryan Madson and Jose Contreras because of Brad Lidge’s injury, the team has another hole to fill. It’s simple math, as manager Charlie Manuel explained. “We have two guys there,” Manuel said Friday. “We had three. Now we have two.”

Polanco expects to be ready to go

March 26 Camden Courier-Post:

“The results weren’t exactly what Placido Polanco was looking for in his first game back after hyperextending his right elbow, but he said he’s still confident he can be 100 percent for Opening Day. Polanco went 0-for-2 with a ground out to short and a fly out to right, but the bigger concern was a twinge he felt in his elbow after his second swing of the day.
