Phillies lose to Braves

May 9 Camden Courier-Post:

“The test began Friday.  The Phillies entered their series with Atlanta with the National League’s best record, based largely on some superb pitching by the starting rotation and a few timely hits from a sluggish offense.

Oswalt likely won’t be ready Friday when he’s eligible to come off DL

May 9

“Amaro said that Roy Oswalt, placed on the disabled list Friday with lower back inflammation, is progressing. He likely won’t be able to pitch when he is eligible to be activated for Friday’s game in Atlanta, the GM said. Oswalt threw a bullpen session on Sunday and will do so again on Tuesday, according to pitching coach Rich Dubee.

Positive news on Phillies’ injuries

May 9

“Be it backs, arms or knees, the healing is coming along nicely.  Starting catcher Carlos Ruiz, placed on the 15-day disabled list yesterday, could be back in the lineup when the Phillies hit Atlanta on Friday. Third ace Roy Oswalt is a rehab start from rejoining the rotation. Each has a sore back.

Braves pitching staff right up there with the Phillies

May 9 columnist John Smallwood:

“OK, I’M NOT crazy enough to say I’d take the Atlanta Braves’ starting rotation over the Phillies’ Phour Aces.  Lining up the rest of the regular season and some expected playoff series, I’ll be perfectly content hitching my wagon to Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Roy Oswalt and Cole Hamels.
