Halladay loses showdown with Johnson

May 11 Camden Courier-Post:

“Jimmy Rollins knew when he trotted down the first-base line in the second inning that he’d missed his shot.  The Phillies had loaded the bases with no one out, but they failed to score. Rollins’ slow grounder to second let Josh Johnson off the hook in a game where every mistake was magnified.

Utley’s return not far away

May 11 Camden Courier-Post:

“For two months, the Phillies have refused to put a timetable on Chase Utley’s return. On Tuesday, the clock officially began.  Utley began a rehab assignment with Class A Clearwater on Tuesday night — going 1-for-4 with a single and a strikeout. The move means he must be activated on the big league roster within 20 days.

Ruiz expects to rejoin Phillies soon

May 11

“A few minutes before the first pitch, Carlos Ruiz stood along a fence at the Carpenter Complex and obligingly signed autographs for a dozen or so fans.  Yes, the extended spring training program is a pretty laid-back operation.  It didn’t take long for the serious purpose of Chooch’s presence in this low-level setting to come up, though. “Carlos, how’s the back?” somebody yelled.

Manuel: Blanton was sore after Monday’s start

May 11

“Going 16 days between starts provided a natural excuse for Joe Blanton’s general ineffectiveness in Monday’s 6-4 Phillies win. Those 16 days also created some confusion.  After the game, Blanton said he felt “OK” in his first start since being activated from the disabled list with a sore right elbow. Asked a few times if he experienced any soreness after the game, Blanton refused to say he did.
