The Phillies didn’t need an airplane to take them home Wednesday night. This team is flying high on its own.  The Phils have reached 39,000 feet in this Season of High Expectations, this season of World Series or Bust.  They hit that attitude over the last 10 days when they had their best 10-game roadtrip ever. They finished it with their ninth win Wednesday afternoon, and it wasn’t just an ordinary win, it was one of their best of the season because it showed that along with all that high-priced talent, they have some character, too.

You can’t blame the Dodgers’ offense for this latest debacle.  For once, other culprits contributed to this fiasco.  The Dodgers spotted starter Chad Billingsley a six-run lead after three innings, then squandered it Wednesday at home as the Philadelphia Phillies rallied for a 9-8 victory and sweep the three-game series.  You know it’s bad when the Dodgers can’t win even when they do score.

Hunter Pence ambled past on his way to a baseball game Tuesday night, across the dugout and up the stairs and onto the field, where the Philadelphia Phillies would play the Los Angeles Dodgers.  Jimmy Rollins cracked a smile and pointed.  “There he goes now,” he said and shook his head, like the whole notion of a Hunter Pence could not be more foreign to him.
