Phillies win in 19 innings, beat Reds 5-4

May 26 Camden Courier-Post:

Wilson Valdez acted like a seasoned closer.  He hit 90 mph on a fastball to Joey Votto. He shook off catcher Dane Sardinha. And he showed no fear.  “If he hits a home run, they’re not going to say anything to me,” said Valdez, laughing.  Not bad for a journeyman infielder making his first professional appearance on the mound.

Gload has tear in hip

May 26 Allentown Morning Call:

At least for now, Ross Gload is going to try to stay put.  But with the injury he’s nursing, you never know what could lie ahead.  GM Ruben Amaro Jr. said Gload has a tear in his hip similar to what Chase Utley went through in 2008.  “It’s not necessarily minor,” Amaro said. “He’s got a labral issue. But we’re going to try to manage through it.”

Utley gets day off as Phillies continue to monitor his health

May 26 Camden Courier-Post:

After each game, Charlie Manuel said he plans to sit down with his star second baseman and discuss playing time.  Chase Utley returned to the lineup Monday after missing all of spring training and nearly two months of the season because of patellar tendinitis, and Manuel aims to monitor his playing time closely.
