There was a line waiting to visit with manager Charlie Manuel after Saturday night’s 4-1 loss to the Oakland A’s and for good reason.  The Phillies didn’t exactly put on a clinic on Saturday night at the Bank.  As a result, Dom Brown got his first real taste of the Philly fans’ ire during the seventh inning of the loss when he didn’t quite hustle down the first-base line when second baseman Jemile Weeks bobbled a routine grounder.

A’s call for Paul VI’s Bailey, and he gets job done against Phillies

Andrew Bailey kidded that Joe Carter spoiled his childhood.  Raised in South Jersey as a diehard Phillies fan, the former Paul VI High School standout spent his nights rooting for them through Carter’s homer in the 1993 World Series, the lean years that followed, and straight into their resurgence early last decade.  Against his favorite team, it was Bailey’s turn to play spoiler.

Oswalt to seek second opinion for back pain

For the first part of the season, the plan for Roy Oswalt had been all about pain management. For the two hours it took for him to pitch a ballgame, Oswalt was able to work around the painful back injury that plagued his season.  But when it got to the point where the pain management was such an ordeal that he was unable to prepare between starts, things had come to a head.
