Phils’ streak snapped as bats slowed in loss to M’s

June 18 CSN Philly:

The visiting clubhouse at Safeco Field was virtually empty when it opened to reporters after Friday night’s game.  Roy Oswalt was conspicuously present. Dressed in street clothes and a golf cap after a 4-2 loss to the Seattle Mariners, Oswalt sat silently and stared contemplatively into his locker for a couple of minutes before turning around to address reporters.

SEATTLE – When you look at Raul Ibanez’ company, you realize the depth of his roots with the Mariners. Only nine other players have spent as much time with the organization as Ibanez did in his two five-season stints in the Pacific Northwest: Edgar Martinez (18 seasons), Jay Buhner (14), Ken Griffey Jr. (13), Dan Wilson (12), Jamie Moyer (11), Randy Johnson (10), Harold Reynolds (10), Ichiro Suzuki (10) and Dave Valle (10).

For a team that had won its previous seven games and was facing a pretty tough pitcher, the Phillies had a surprisingly bitter vibe flowing through the clubhouse after a 4-2 loss to the Mariners Friday night.  I’m guessing it had something to do with Doug Eddings strike zone, which did not appear to be the most consistent piece of open space in the Pacific Northwest (I’m guessing because few of the key players were interested in speaking to the media). In the sixth inning, normally mild-mannered third baseman Placido Polanco got into a heated confrontation with Eddings
