Mets Get To Phillies’ Worley Early

May 30 Allentown Morning Call:

Ryan Howard was rested. Chase Utley, too. And even the Philadelphia Phillies who did play Sunday appeared to need a break.  Vance Worley was whacked around early and Jimmy Rollins made a crucial error at shortstop that helped the New York Mets jump out to a huge lead in a 9-5 victory.  Jose Reyes tripled twice for the third time this season and finished with four of New York’s season-high 17 hits as the Mets enjoyed a rare offensive outburst.

Worley Rocked Early In Phillies’ Loss To Mets

May 30 CSN Philly:

Things had been going the Phillies way a lot lately. Starting with the 19-inning victory over the Reds last week, followed by a game where pitcher Cliff Lee was the hitting star, as well as the back-to-back comeback wins over the Mets, the Phillies could not lose.  So with four wins in a row and five out of the last six, manager Charlie Manuel decided to mix it up a little on Sunday afternoon. He gave Ryan Howard and Chase Utley the day off against lefty starter Jon Niese and posted a lineup on the dry-erase board in the visitors’ clubhouse at CitiField that featured five players that were not on an Opening Day roster in 2010.

Oswalt’s Tip Very Helpful

May 30 Camden Courier-Post:

The last time J.C. Romero took the mound, he failed to retire a batter.  He entered the game in the 11th inning of the Phillies‘ 19-inning win over Cincinnati and threw 16 pitches. Just four went for strikes. The lone out he recorded came when Romero picked a runner off second base.  The lefty didn’t pitch in the next three games. Instead, he used the time to figure out what went wrong.

Starters Rest, And Phils Fall

May 30 Camden Courier-Post:

Charlie Manuel views his lineup card as something of a puzzle. There is an optimal solution that will maximize the Phillies‘ offense, and Manuel aims to find it each night.  Sunday, however, was a bit different.  “We’ve got a good bench today,” Manuel said of his offense in the series finale against the Mets, a lineup that featured five starters who weren’t on an opening-day roster just a year ago.
