Reds bust game open in ninth to defeat Phillies

May 25 CSN Philly:

A tired starting pitcher, a mistake on the bases, a misplay in the field, and, oh yeah, another offensive slowdown.  All of these conspired against the Phillies in 6-3 loss to the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night.  Ultimately, the Phillies lost the game when Ryan Madson, their best reliever this season, threw away a ball in the field and went on to allow three runs in the ninth inning, all coming on Jay Bruce’s bases-loaded triple with two outs.

Ryan Madson brings back bad memories for Philadelphia Phillies with ninth-inning implosion

May 25 LehighValleyLive.com:

Ryan Madson, we hardly knew ye.  The new Madson, that is.  The new-look Madson, the one who appeared to be a swaggering, dominant closer instead of just the perfect setup man, disappeared during a disastrous ninth inning Tuesday night.

Contreras ready for return to Phils’ bullpen

May 25 CSN Philly:

“Players are starting to move in the right direction when it comes to the Phillies’ disabled list.  Chase Utley came off the DL on Monday. Reliever Jose Contreras is expected to come off it on Wednesday or Thursday. Shane Victorino is almost ready to play in minor-league rehab games, putting him on target to return a week from Friday.

Another roster move on the way

May 25 Allentown Morning Call:

Another roster move is just a day or two away.  After throwing well in his rehab outing with Triple-A Lehigh Valley, right-hander Jose Contreras could be activated as early as Wednesday. Although being that he threw 20 pitches in two innings on Tuesday at Coca-Cola Park, he likely won’t come off the disabled list until Thursday, the final game of the Phillies’ nine-game homestand.
