Per phillies.com, Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard has been named the National League Player of the Week. Howard hit .400 (6-for-15) in four games this past week, leading the Major Leagues with four home runs. He had 8 RBI’s and 18 total bases during that stretch.
Howard’s home run Sunday was the 243rd of his career, tying him with Chuck Klein for 4th place in franchise history. For the season, Howard is hitting .298, with 21 homers, 73 RBI’s, with an OPS of .894.
This is Howard’s sixth Player of the Week award.
The Rangers’ Benjie Molina, who became the first catcher since 2004 to hit for the cycle, won the AL award.
