September 23 Philadelphia Daily News:
“Could Jimmy Rollins be back in the lineup at some point this weekend? General manager Ruben Amaro Jr. didn’t rule out the possibility, which is about as substantive a prognosis the Phillies have offered since their shortstop strained his hamstring against the Marlins on Sept. 8.
“It would be nice to have him by the weekend, but I don’t know if he will be ready or 100 percent to do that,” Amaro said. “We’re not going to put him on the field until he is 100 percent . . . I think it’s a possibility. We’ll see.”
Rollins is expected to take part in a simulated game today at Citizens Bank Park, where he will face live pitching for the first time since his injury. Manager Charlie Manuel said young relievers like Mike Zagurski and Antonio Bastardo, neither of whom has seen much work recently, could pitch to the shortstop.
Rollins said Tuesday he did not think that heading to the instructional league in Florida was a possibility, and Manuel indicated that yesterday.
“We can throw two or three of them in there and let him see some live pitching. That will help him just as much as anything else,” Manuel said. “The problem we’ve got too, if he wants to go somewhere, like the instructional league or something like that, the pitcher’s command is a little bit not real good, and the quality of at-bats he’s getting is something too, and all that and whatever.”
Rollins, who spent about 2 months on the disabled list with a calf strain earlier in the season and later battled a bruised foot, shagged fly balls before practice yesterday.
“He’s been running,” Amaro said. “He’s moving pretty well. He’s progressing.””
