September 7 Philadelphia Inquirer:
After the Phillies‘ doubleheader split with Florida, the team announced that IronPigs outfielder John Mayberry Jr. would join the team in time for Tuesday’s game against the Marlins. After going 3 for 4 Monday in Lehigh Valley’s season finale, Mayberry finished his triple-A season batting .267 with 25 doubles, 15 home runs, and 65 RBIs. He comes to the Phillies as a hot hitter, batting .325 in his final 10 games of the season.
With the Phillies‘ 40-man roster full, it appears that infielder Cody Ransom, who played in 22 games for the Phils this season, will not be called up.
Zagurski, 27, finished strong at Lehigh Valley, posting a 1.29 ERA in his final 13 games. Overall in his first full triple-A season, he went 2-3 record with three saves and a 3.27 ERA.
“I was pleased with it,” Zagurski said. “I started out a little slow. I made a few mechanical changes, and it took a little longer than I hoped to get adjusted to it. I had a little rough patch in the middle there where I wasn’t throwing a lot of quality strikes. But for the most part I think my breaking ball got quite a bit better, and my fastball command was pretty solid all year.”
With the Phillies unlikely to pick up the $4.5 million 2011 option on lefthander J.C. Romero’s contract, Zagurski and fellow lefty Antonio Bastardo could compete for jobs in the bullpen next year in spring training.”
