Philly Sports Central logoBy Justin Adkins:

Hard to believe, but it’s been a year to the day since the gates opened on the PhillySportsCentral.com Message Boards.

Since that time, it’s a been a great experience, with some witty debates, intense dicussions, incredibly ridiculous arguments — some even about Philly sports — and pretty much non-stop shenanigans on a near-daily basis.

The PSC boards are a great place to hang out, killing time with like-minded folks who love sports and smack talk in equal measure.  It’s also a great way to enjoy a game, posting in or following along with the Gameday Thread, sharing enthusiastically in the euphoria of victory and the gut-punch of defeat.  The boards provide a great way to blow off the work day, they’re always there at night when games are on or news breaks and you want to react, and for some of us they basically serve by proxy as the group of buddies you don’t have time to hang out with much anymore since life always seems to get in the way.  Luckily the internet is always on and you don’t have to worry about driving home.

The top moment for the boards this past year has to be the night that the Phillies signed Cliff Lee, which went from a “yeah right” rumor to a crashing crescendo of goose-bump inducing excitement.  It was was pretty much as close as we could get to the hysteria surrounding winning another World Fucking Championship without the actual champagne.  A truly magical moment in message boarding.

The lowlight has to be Brian Wilson’s hideous beard.

On the blog side, PSC is still very much a work in progress.  The original content is slowly getting out there, with hopefully more to come as time goes on.  Thanks especially to contributing writers Barry Jeffrey Jr, Mike Prince, Kevin Franklin, Frank Stabone, Tony Fryckberg, and Mike Radano.

Also thanks to the PSC Message Boards Admin/moderator team — Bandit, Scream, MTCal, wickedwrister, DOUGESQ, Tony, psub, shortswing, and in absentia — WerthFan and KermitTheProg.  Great work guys, your efforts are constantly appreciated.

Also a quick thanks to Ben N., who way back when had the ambition to plant the seed for what would become PSC, and to Ronnie B. for being a completely batshit crazy lunatic — we wouldn’t have PSC without you, buddy.

And really, thanks to everyone who has been a part of all of it, from the most active posters to the  most casual lurkers, it’s been a hell of a ride.  Here’s to another great year of building the legacy that is PSC.

And in that spirit of continued growth, starting today we’re going to be running a couple contests designed to increase our membership by giving out the one thing people love more than anything else (OK, the second most loved thing, as giving away the first is against the law unless you buy us dinner first) – money.

So it’s a win/win for everyone, as more members means more discussion which is good for the site’s bottom line as well as the experience of each of us who call the board home.

Here are the contest details and rules:

PSC Recruitment Drive – March 22 – April 30, 2011

On today, the one-year anniversary of the PhillySportsCentral.com Message Boards being birthed from the internet’s copious vagina (like that heroin lady, only messier. And without the spare change), we are celebrating by having a recruitment drive. It’s a chance to share with others the greatness that is PSC. It’s also a chance to win some booze money.

The person who recruits the most new users during this contest will win $100.

So go out and find people, be it on other message boards you post at, or at boards you used to post at, or at boards you’re not a member of but sign up to recruit their members (this is recommended only for corporate-run boards, not privately held ones), on sports blogs, on Facebook, on Twitter, in the waiting room of the local clinic, whatever, and bring them to PSC.

Here are the details:

– The contest will last from March 22, 2011 through April 30, 2011.

– In order for you to get credit, the person registering as a new recruit must list you as a Referral during the Registration process. They must use your exact username in order for it to be tracked correctly, so make sure people know your handle.

– In order to qualify for the prize, you must have a minimum of three (3) Referrals.

– In order for you to qualify for the prize, the Referred user must make a minimum of ten (10) posts within 30 days of Registration. So if you do refer someone, encourage them to actively post! Posts must contribute to the discussion within a particular thread and not seem like spam or trolling (determined at the discretion of PSC) in order to count towards the total.

– Prize will be paid on June 1, 2011. This will allow for users who are Referred on the final day of the contest (April 30, 2011) to meet the minimum post requirements.

– Prize paid through PayPal only, so if you don’t have it, you would need to get it to claim your prize.

– If there is a tie for the most number of users Referred, the first tie-breaker will be which Referred user had the earliest registration date/time down to the minute. Second tie-breaker will be which Referred User has the most posts from March 22, 2011 through May 31, 2011. If somehow multiple users registered at the exact same date/time and posted the same number of times, the prize will be split up evenly.

– Every existing PSC Registered User is eligible to participate and recruit (except the site owner). This means Referred Users can also participate after they Register.

– Please do not register dual accounts as Referred users. We will know it if you do, and doing so will disqualify you from participating in this or future contests. For the purposes of this contest, we will not consider other members of your household as eligible for Referral. We apologize for the inconvenience.

– PSC reserves the right to change or update the rules at any time, though we do not intend to do anything douchey.

PSC Best Noob Contest – March 22 – April 30, 2011

In addition to the PSC Recruitment Contest for existing members, we will be having a Best Noob contest as well.

Any person who registers and posts at least once during the March 22, 2011 – April 30, 2011 timeframe will be eligible to be entered into the contest to win a single $100 prize.

Here’s how it works:

– Any person who registers during the above dates will become eligible for a chance at the prize if at least one post is made during that timeframe. The post must contribute to discussion, not just be an introductory post, though including an introduction with the post is fine.

– It does not matter if the new member was referred or not. Any person who registers during the contest timeframe is eligible for the prize.

– After the contest time period ends, any qualified members will be entered into a poll asking the entire board who was the best noob poster. The top three (3) vote getters will be entered into a new poll, with the top vote getter winning the prize. Each Poll will be open for one week.

– If there is a tie in the voting, the first tie-breaker will be which new user had the most posts from March 22, 2011 through April 30, 2011. Second tie-breaker will be which New user has the earliest registration date/time down to the minute. If somehow multiple users Registered at the exact same date/time and posted the same number of times, the prize will be split up evenly.

– Prize paid through PayPal only, so if you don’t have it, you would need to get it to claim your prize.

– Please do not register dual accounts. We will know it if you do, and doing so will disqualify you from participating in this or future contests. For the purposes of this contest, we will not consider other members of your household as eligible for the contest. We apologize for the inconvenience.

– PSC reserves the right to change or update the rules at any time, though we do not intend to do anything douchey, at least not more so than normal.

Register at PSC right here – http://www.phillysportscentral.com/forums/register.php

If you need a hand with registering, or experience any type of issue, or just have a question or comment, please email us at [email protected] or use our Contact Us form.

Thanks again to all!

For the Recruitment Drive, this Best Noob contest should make it easier to get Referrals, so try and get the word out there if you want some cash!
