January 2 Camden Courier-Post:
“In many respects, the new year should be an important one for the Sixers in determining their future.
We could find that out as soon as the trade deadline on Feb. 24, especially if the Sixers trade Andre Iguodala.
Even if they don’t trade their star forward by then, there are still many things that need to happen for the Sixers to return to NBA relevancy this season.
Here are five of them:
This will be the hot-button topic right up until the deadline or during the summer. On one hand, Iguodala is the Sixers‘ best perimeter defender. While he’s not a good outside shooter, he gets to the basket and is a great complimentary player on a team that has a legitimate star player. The Sixers, of course, are not that team.
So if they are going to do something bold, Iguodala has to go. It’s not just his contract, which has three years and $46 million left. It’s that he would provide salary-cap relief to a team that’s hamstrung.”
