January 18 Camden Courier-Post:
“Andre Iguodala said he meant no animosity toward Sixers rookie Evan Turner when he elbowed him in the chest Friday night after Turner faked a 3-pointer from the corner and then lost the ball out of bounds as he tried to dribble.
Spencer Hawes, who passed the ball to Turner, was talking to him on the way back to the bench after the turnover. Hawes made the shooting motion with his hand as if to say that he expected Turner to shoot it. As Turner was answering Hawes, Iguodala walked by and elbowed him in the chest.
Iguodala said he was delivering the message that Turner, the second overall pick in the draft, should play his game and stop listening to everybody’s criticisms.
“Spencer wanted him to take the shot, and he didn’t,” Iguodala said. “Both of them were frustrated with each other. I let Evan know to have confidence in himself.
“Evan kind of reacted (to what Hawes was saying). I was letting him know that you can’t react. You’ve got to stay even keel throughout the game. I was only upset because of how he reacted.”
Turner shrugged it off.
Then he proved it.
Turner played 33 minutes in the Sixers‘ 96-92 overtime win Monday over the Charlotte Bobcats. He shot 1-for-7, but was on the floor in the final minutes and into overtime for his defense.
He guarded Charlotte’s Stephen Jackson and helped hold him to 7-for-24 shooting before Jackson fouled out in regulation. Turner also finished with 11 rebounds, one off his career high.”
