January 1 Philadelphia Inquirer:
“The 76ers will get a chance to see who they are without Andre Iguodala.
On Friday, the Sixers said that the swingman will be sidelined for five games and will not see on-court activity until Jan. 10. Iguodala was on the inactive list for Friday night’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers, missing his third consecutive game.
Iguodala, who is averaging 14.2 points per game and has been the face of the franchise for the last three seasons, has missed about a third of this season with right Achilles tendinitis.
Sixers coach Doug Collins said that the team is hopeful that this final, extended rest would cure Iguodala of his lingering injury.
“What we did was, when he went and got a second opinion, both doctors were in agreement that if he’s going to take some time off, give it a significant amount of time,” Collins said. “What happened last time was he took seven or eight days off and he was feeling much better, [but] he came back and he didn’t get it out of his system.””
