The Sixers have officially announced the sale of the team. The best news? Lower prices.
“I’m announcing today that going forward, we are slashing – and I mean slashing – ticket prices on individual game tickets on just under 9,000 seats at the Wells Fargo Center for each and every Sixers home game,” said new Sixers CEO Adam Aron. “Indeed on thousands of seats each night, our ticket prices will be cut by 50 percent or more. This is not a sale or a promotion. These are our new ticket prices.”
The new ownership group is led by Joshua Harris, 46, who is the managing director and co-founder of Apollo Global Management, a private equity investment firm that owns Caesars Entertainment Corp., Norwegian Cruise Line, CKX – parent company of 19 Entertainment, which produces American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance.
But the biggest names involved in the new ownership team is Philly’s own Will Smith and his wife Jada, according to the AP’s Dan Geleston. No word on how deep they’re in, but their presence should provide some solid publicity for a team looking to take the next step in reversing their downward spiral.
Lastly, general manager Ed Stefanski has been let go. President Rod Thorn and head coach Doug Collins are still on board. Thorn will be “captain of the ship” per Harris.
