Intense Babin sends message

August 8 Camden Courier-Post

During the morning scrimmage between the offensive and defensive first teams, defensive end Jason Babin showed the wild intensity that made him such a coveted free agent. It matched his intimidating arm tattoos.  First, on a running play up the middle, the left end slid over and got a hand on running back LeSean McCoy and the other hand on the ball to stop the play. Babin looked to take a tug on the ball and McCoy responded with a swipe of his arm to remove Babin’s hand.

LB Matthews making name for self at Eagles camp

August 8 CSN Philly

Casey Matthews is in the family business, but he is also trying to make a name for himself.  The Eagles rookie was installed as the first-string middle linebacker on the first day of training camp — catching everyone by surprise (including him) — even though he did not have the benefit of any minicamps because of the NFL lockout. And Matthews, an Oregon product taken in the fourth round of April’s draft, has only solidified his hold on that spot since then.  “He’s come in here and taken charge,” head coach Andy Reid said Sunday.

Jamar Chaney effective no matter where he lines up

August 8 Allentown Morning Call

Jamar Chaney has just begun his second year in the Eagles’ system, and already he’s played every linebacker spot. Normally, that’s a sign of trouble for an individual on this team, at least in the era of current coach Andy Reid.  Not so for Chaney, who’s handled every assignment more than competently.  Now he’s concentrating on the strong side exclusively, after originally being worked in on the weak side and then the middle after Stewart Bradley was lost to an injury last season.

Eagles now making serious moves after Donovan McNabb era

August 8 The Times of Trenton

Donovan McNabb’s biggest weakness in his 11 years with the Eagles wasn’t his accuracy, decision making or performance in big games.  It was his mouth.  Other than a couple of insightful press conferences, the post Rush Limbaugh one comes to mind, the more McNabb said, the worse he looked.  Remember “black on black crime”?  How about when he was waiting for the second overtime in Cincinnati?

Eagles’ offensive line could have three new starters

August 8 Allentown Morning Call

Football happens at the speed of light. The game, the business, the joy and the heartbreak are so fleeting that it’s just about impossible to wrap your head, much less your heart, around all the goings on. You blink and you miss eight things.  Seems like moments ago the Eagles’ starting offensive line consisted of tackles Jason Peters and Winston Justice, guards Todd Herremans and Max Jean-Gilles or Nick Cole and center Mike McGlynn, in a battlefield promotion after Jamaal Jackson went down.

Eagles have found the perfect backup for Michael Vick in Vince Young

August 8 columnist Brad Wilson

“Remember when Joe Paterno wanted to turn Jim Kelly into a linebacker? Kelly wisely turned JoePa’s odd offer down and went on to enjoy an Hall of Fame career as a quarterback.  Judging from the way Andy Reid talks about Vince Young, you wonder if he’d have pulled a Paterno had he, Reid, been Young’s college coach.  “He’s so stinking big … He is wired like a linebacker, man, this guy is tough and competitive. He is a competitive son-of-a-gun and I love it,” said Reid
