The Kevin Kolb trade rumors continue to swirl, and with the NFL lockout hopefully coming to a close the talk will only continue to heat up.

The most recent rumors have Kolb being traded to the Arizona Cardinals for cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie

It makes a lot of sense, which is one reason why a rumor like this spreads.  The Cardinals desperately need a quarterback.  The Eagles desperately need a cornerback.  The Cardinals just drafted one of the best cornerback prospects to come out in a long time in LSU’s Patrick Peterson, possibly making DRC expendable.  The Eagles have been rumored to want a player in return for Kolb, not necessarily a draft pick or picks.

Earlier this offseason, before the lockout actually started, Eagles head coach Andy Reid went on record saying he hoped to trade Kolb to a team that would give the 2007 second round pick a chance to succeed.  It was a similar sounding statement compared to what Reid said regarding the trading of Donovan McNabb.

Speaking to notorious Eagles sycophant and WIP’s own Howard Eskin, who was filling in for Dan Patrick of the cleverly named Dan Patrick Show, Kolb seemed to endorse the rumors.

“Arizona would be a great place. I’ve envisioned myself there and some other places,” Kolb said.  “I think they all have a chance to be great. Of course, that’s the kind of team you want to go to, if you’re going to get traded.”

Kolb likely envisions himself anywhere but under the capricious thumb of Andy Reid.

So the strings are starting to tie together.  And in what looks like a thumb on the knot, Mike Jurecki of XTRA 910 in Phoenix, via CSN Philly, reports that the Cardinals would indeed be willing to move Rodgers-Cromartie “straight up” for Kolb, pointing to a “source” with knowledge of the team.

With the way the Eagles negotiate, a straight up deal for DRC may not be enough for them, especially since the rumors of the Eagles initial demands included both first and third round picks.  With the good news that the lockout is actually wrapping up, there shouldn’t be too much longer to wait to find out.
