Flyers Danny Briere and Sean O'Donnell

By Justin Adkins:

The NHL has announced that Flyers center Danny Briere has been suspended for three games.

The suspension was triggered by Briere’s actions in this past Saturday’s 6-1 beatdown of the New York Islanders.  He was given a five-minute major and 10-minute game misconduct due to his cross-checking of the Islanders’ Frans Nielsen in the head with about a minute left in the game.

Briere leads the Flyers with 6 goals and has eight points in 11 games.

With Briere out of the lineup, the Flyers have recalled forward Eric Wellwood, 20, from their AHL affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms.  He will make his NHL debut tonight.
