November 11 Philadelphia Daily News:
“Back to reality.
For the Flyers, yesterday’s hourlong practice was a welcome back to the real world after team bonding and golfing at the Pinehurst No. 2 course in the 75-degree sun on Tuesday.
It also was a reintroduction to teammates Michael Leighton and Matt Walker, who joined the team on the ice for the first time since their October surgeries.
“They are limited right now,” coach Peter Laviolette said. “It’s a process that you go through. First, there is not much going on, and then there is stuff going on [rehabbing], and then eventually they practice with the team. They’re getting there, slowly.”
Leighton had surgery on Oct. 11 to relieve a herniated disc and his timetable for return was 6 to 8 weeks. He was originally scheduled to return to practice on Nov. 20.
“It felt good just to get out there and get some shots,” Leighton said. “My back’s feeling good and I wanted to get out there and get some shots and work on some things. It’s a matter of getting stronger and getting my game back.””
