Report: Flyers looking to trade Bobrovsky

July 8 Pro Hockey Talk:

As if the Flyers and Russian goaltenders haven’t been in the news enough, the latest out of Philadelphia combines the two topics into one big, tantalizing story. The Flyers are reportedly shopping Sergei Bobrovsky despite the rookie’s impressive 28-15-8 record. Yes, you heard that correctly. Despite having a .915 save percentage, 2.59 goals against average, and being a Calder Trophy candidate for the first half of the season, the 22-year-old is on the trade market.  In November, he was supposed to finally be the answer to the Flyers’ two decade long goaltender search.

Read hopes to follow in JVR’s footsteps

July 8 CSN Philly:

Even before Mike Richards was traded, the magnetized placard “Matt Read” was hanging up in Paul Holmgren’s office on a line with Richards and Kris Versteeg.  Now Richards and Versteeg are gone – but Read is still here and was among the on-ice contingent at Skate Zone this week during the Flyers’ prospect camp.  If there is one thing we have learned about the new-direction Flyers this summer it’s this: Anything is possible.

First-round pick Couturier aims to make Flyers

July 8 CSN Philly:

Sean Couturier had a sneak preview of the barrage of media attention that comes along with joining the Flyers when the team selected him eighth overall at last month’s draft – but even that whirlwind experience didn’t set him up for what he encountered after he arrived in Philadelphia.  On Wednesday, the first day of Flyers prospect camp, Couturier didn’t even have a chance to pop in his fake teeth before a pack of reporters and cameras approached him at his locker just moments after he left the ice. (He’s missing most of his top front teeth because of a puck he took to the face a couple years back.)

Flyers thrilled with Couturier’s upside

July 8 Camden Courier-Post:

At 18 years and 7 months, Sean Couturier is the youngest player participating in the Flyers’ prospects camp this week. He may also be the best.  Described as a young Jordan Staal, Couturier has the distinction of being only the second player to lead the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League in scoring as a 17-year-old, putting up 96 points in his second season with Drummondville.  The other? A kid named Sidney Crosby.

Flyers sign Simmonds

July 8 Camden Courier-Post:

The Flyers have signed restricted free agent Wayne Simmonds to a two-year, $3.5 million contract, the club announced on Thursday.  Simmonds, 22, was acquired from the Los Angeles Kings as part of the June 23 trade that sent Mike Richards to the Kings. Simmonds recorded 14 goals and 16 assists for the Kings last season. He will make $1.75 million in each of the next two seasons.  Simmonds’ signing might be the Flyers’ final move of the offseason. It gives them 14 forwards under NHL contracts, including Ian Laperriere, who is expected to retire or be placed on long-term injury reserve.”
